Agile Organizations for 2030 and Beyond

Abstract

What would it really take to achieve organizational (or enterprise or business) agility?

Benefits of organizational agility:

• The organization can replan the project portfolio at least every quarter.
• The product people can replan a given product's strategy at least once a month.
• People across the organization can collaborate toward a meaningful overarching goal.

Can your organization do that? Very few can.

That's because the current culture, based on resource efficiency thinking, prevents us from doing so.

Organizational agility is an issue of culture, not of process.

We can create agile organizations when we change the culture to value these three ideas:

• Flow efficiency to watch the outcomes, not the people.
• Instead of managing change, focus on learning from short experiments.
• Become more predictable with incremental funding and shorter planning horizons.
